This book had some good basic information for new puppy owners from an expert who raises puppies. She takes a tough (not mean, but firm) stance with her puppies, which probably most new dog owners would benefit from following. Many dog problems come from babying pups, which we all know is so tempting to do.However, even though the book was short, it was a little repetitious and would profit from some good editing. Tip: if your sentences include the phrase, "as I say", you probably don't need to say it again and again. I think it was a little too basic for me but I'd recommend it to someone who had never had a puppy before.

Good info but nothing new within the genre of puppy training. It's all about getting into the pup's mind, understanding how the dog thinks and then working with it to reinforce good behavior.
This was a nicely written short version of puppy training. I found it informative and well worth the read time. I am "sharing" it with another family member via our units. I have raised several pups and still benefited from this book.
This book was so easy to understand. It has word for word direct instructions that work...I wish like heck I had had it when my Shih Tzu was a little puppy because I made many mistakes. The little tricks and secrets that this author provided has been amazing on my puppy. She is almost a year now but they are still working for me.
This was the first book I bought prior to purchasing my puppy. This book has it all and really didn't have to buy the other books but all the other books supported this one so I glad to have gotten this one first. It has many valuable pointers in it, Enjoy!
It has some practical stuff but like the writer says its based on her own experience and basic simple training. Otherwise a fun read to remind you of all the messiness your puppy has made.
This is a short 27-page book with some basic puppy raising information. There's certainly some good advice, but also some contradictory information (such as telling you to put the puppy in their sleeping room, behind a door, when napping, but then telling you to be sure to take them outside the instant they wake up..hard to do if you can't see them!) Some advice is pretty good, such as the section on getting your puppy to sleep the first few nights, while other sections really suffer from lack of information, for instance the training information which talks about never letting your puppy ignore a command and yet doesn't talk about proper training (and NOT for instance giving a command if your puppy hasn't been taught it yet). I would have liked to see some mention for instance of clicker training which is a wonderful and extremely powerful way to training puppies. So, this is an okay, quick intro to raising a puppy, but I'd certainly recommend other books for more comprehensive and complete information that will take you past the first week or two of owning your dog.
